AASA Applauds Senate Vote on ECAA
Alexandria, Va. – July 16, 2015 – Daniel A. Domenech, executive director of AASA, The School Superintendents Association, issued the following statement today following the U.S. Senate’s passage of the Every Child Achieves Act.
“AASA applauds the Senate for its broad support for our nation’s schools and the students they serve, voting 81-17 to pass the Every Child Achieves Act (ECAA). In this act, the effort to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA, going on its 8th year) has reached the furthest point yet. Today’s vote maintains the core focus of ESEA, targeting resources and support to students most in need while providing robust educational opportunities for all students. ECAA is long past due and ensures continued support for our nation’s public schools.
“We applaud ECAA for being a bipartisan solution to the federal overreach and punitive measures in current law, restoring a more proper balance between federal, state and local government in public education. By returning autonomy to the state and local level, ECAA recognizes the importance of empowering state and local leaders to use their professional knowledge and proximal location to make the decisions necessary to successfully adhere to their educational missions. We look forward to the conference committee process to reconcile the differences between the House and Senate proposals.”

Promethean Introduces New Blended Learning Features in ClassFlow™
-Award-winning instructional delivery system becomes a fully featured blended learning solution enabling students to learn anytime, anywhere-
(ATLANTA – July 16, 2015) — Promethean, a global education technology company, has introduced a new version of ClassFlow that now supports blended learning environments, enhancing instruction both inside and outside the classroom. ClassFlow is a comprehensive instructional delivery system that increases the depth of student engagement by providing interactive and collaborative use of classroom devices, digital curriculum and assessments for learning. ClassFlow gives teachers the ability to deliver high-impact, multimedia lessons and breathes educational purpose into Chromebooks™, iPads®, laptops and classroom displays, such as interactive projectors, SMART Boards®, Promethean ActivBoards™ and Promethean ActivPanels™.
The school edition of ClassFlow now enables schools to extend learning beyond the classroom by assigning each student a unique ClassFlow Student Account – a personal account that enables students to access instructional materials, assignments and other relevant information pertinent to class curriculum at any time, from any location. ClassFlow Student Accounts also provide each student with a cloud-based storage drive, or “digital backpack”, where students can upload and organize their own learning resources and materials for reference.
With ClassFlow Student Accounts, teachers can enhance student engagement by sending assignments and instructional materials to students before or after the school day. Furthermore, teachers can use the new Assignment Tracker feature to monitor individual student progress by accessing real-time metrics on the status of outstanding assessments and assignments.
The latest release of ClassFlow now offers a new suite of dashboard tools for teachers and students to enhance class management and provides instant access to the most important classroom information, all in one place, anytime, and anywhere. The new suite includes the:
- CLASS HOMEPAGE – Teachers can post announcements, send reminders and communicate with individual students outside the classroom. The students can also ask questions as a part of the same comments stream.
- STUDENT DASHBOARD –Enables students to efficiently manage time by tracking their daily schedule of activities, lessons, assignments and assessments across all of their classes.
- TEACHER DASHBOARD – Enables teachers to get a consolidated view of the most important class information such as lessons delivered, status of assignments and the class’ calendar.
TEACHER CALENDAR – Acts as a launch pad for the teacher’s daily activities. Once scheduled, teachers can deliver their lessons and assignments directly from the calendar.
As part of the latest upgrade, Promethean has also introduced ClassFlow Desktop – software for Windows or Mac OS that allows teachers to capture and share their screen when displaying content from any website, document or application, instantly creating dynamic, interactive lesson material. Teachers can deliver content built outside of ClassFlow during a lesson while taking full advantage of the collaboration and engagement capabilities within ClassFlow.
“The latest version of ClassFlow was specifically designed in response to the instructional realities of today,” said Promethean Chief Marketing and Products Officer Scott Cary. “Improving learning outcomes by raising the level of engagement, feedback and collaboration amongst teachers and students shouldn’t be limited to the four walls of a classroom. Through blended learning initiatives, students can connect to learning resources, their teachers and their peers wherever they are, enabling learning to continue beyond school hours. Using ClassFlow, districts, schools and teachers can seamlessly implement hybrid learning models and empower students to take ownership of their learning.”
The enhanced functionality of ClassFlow is now available. For more information about ClassFlow and to request a demo, visit https://www.classflow.com/about/learn-more.html.

Device bends and holds devices at an ergonomically correct and secure angle
Califone International, Inc., a leader in the design, development and manufacturing of audiovisual (AV) and supplemental curriculum products for use in education, announces the release of the TPT smartphone and tablet stand. The stand displays full- and mini-sized tablets, and larger smartphones, at the optimal angle for learners to view in portrait or landscape mode, while using mobile devices for typing activities.
“The TPT tablet stand offers students a sturdy accessory that holds and displays tablets for extended writing assignments using Bluetooth keyboards,” said Tim Ridgway, vice president of marketing for Califone. “We designed the TPT stand with student comfort in mind. Since all major assessments specify a mobile device’s onscreen keyboard be disabled, it was important to provide a variety of ergonomically correct display angles for optimal visibility of the device.”
When the TPT tablet stand is opened and adjusted, the stable base with two-part spine can be molded to prop up tablets such as an iPad, Kindle Fire or Galaxy Tab. The three-step, ratcheted, independent movement of each base leg opens to a 75-degree angle, and expands up to six inches tip-to-tip. A 22-step ratcheted movement of the spine (at the base) adjusts vertically from zero to 180 degrees. In addition, the stand features rubber grips to keep devices in place.
The TPT stand includes a 1-year warranty for use in early childhood centers and schools, and is available separately or with the KB4 Bluetooth keyboard and 3068AV headphone in the Califone Bluetooth Smartphone & Tablet Peripheral Pack.
