AASA Launches Aspiring Superintendents Academy

Alexandria, Va. – Sept. 3, 2015 – As a way to help public school educators reach the highest level of school district leadership, AASA, The School Superintendents Association, has launched the Aspiring Superintendents Academy.

This program focuses on developing a professional practice grounded on evidence-based knowledge, skills, and dispositions resulting in certification and transition for participants into their first position as superintendent.

“A number of factors determine the success of a superintendent—in addition to instruction and educational issues,” said Daniel A. Domenech, executive director, AASA. “This academy will provide leadership training and development to effectively mold school building principals and other educators who aspire to climb career leaders and ultimately reach the superintendency. We are grateful to the National Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA), our premier School Solutions Center partner, as well as our Minnesota affiliate, the Minnesota Association of School Administrators (MASA), for supporting our initiative.”

AASA’s mission is to advocate for the highest quality public education for all students and develop and support school system leaders. Since 2007, AASA has partnered with NJPA in achieving this mission. MASA, which represents more than 900 educational administrators throughout Minnesota, works collectively with AASA on educational matters of national importance.

Participation will be limited to 30 individuals who work in Minnesota. Sessions, which will take place in St. Paul, Minn., will be taught by experienced, effective school leaders and each participant will be paired with a mentor for guidance during the program and beyond.

Applications will be screened for the highest quality candidates.  Each participant will complete a skill assessment as part of the orientation process and will have an individual learning plan to guide their learning.
