Follett Integrates with eBook Providers to Create

Open Content Repository for PreK-12 Districts

Follett announces key product integrations with OverDrive, Mackin

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 2, 2015 – Follett continues to expand its market-leading Destiny solution to be an open agnostic discovery tool for print and digital content that supports PreK-12 classroom and curriculum needs. Another major step in that direction was announced today when Follett unveiled new product integrations with OverDrive and Mackin Educational Resources.

The announcement coincides with the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) National Conference, which startsThursday (Nov. 5) in Columbus, Ohio.

The product integrations ensure that once users have logged into Destiny, they can access OverDrive or MackinVIA content without being presented with another separate login prompt from those vendors’ platforms. Students and staff can easily access the content from Destiny with a single click of a consistent open button, further negating the need to remember multiple usernames and passwords.

“We recognize our customers utilize content from multiple vendors and are seeking a simple login solution for all their print and digital resources,” said Nader Qaimari, Executive Vice President and General Manager for Follett School Solutions.“It’s important we all work together to provide teachers and students a more seamless browsing experience and to minimize barriers, such as multiple logins. We are pleased to work with vendors, such as OverDrive and MackinVIA, to more easily access content from Destiny with a single click.”

Don Fabricant, Chief Sales Officer and General Manager of Education at OverDrive, concurred the product integrations will be welcome news for his company’s school partners.

“We’re very happy to work with Follett to make it happen,” Fabricant said. “It will make it even easier to access, discover and enjoy the large variety of digital content and highly rated reading experience that students, educators and parents have come to rely on from OverDrive.”

According to Randal Heise, President and CEO of Mackin Educational Resources, “This is a pivotal day for thousands of our mutual customers who have trusted that the MackinVIA and Follett Destiny products would one day be aligned in a ‘customer-first partnership’ to provide convenient one-click access to students and teacher resources. The key to advancing education in a digital world is unrestricted access and this integration puts us all on the right path.”

Qaimari noted Follett will be expanding this “open approach to education” strategy to support integration with other PreK-12 solutions, such as learning management systems, and access to open educational resources (OER) to ensure teachers and students have access to resources where they need them and when they need them.

All three companies will be exhibiting at this week’s AASL National Conference: Follett at booth #309, OverDrive at booth #629, and Mackin at booth #317.

LearnBop Wins 2015 Tech & Learning Award of Excellence and 2015 EDDDIE Award;

Fuel Education’s Middle School Language Arts Courses Win 2015 BESSIE Award

Herndon, Virginia, November 2, 2015 – Leading personalized learning provider Fuel Education™ (FuelEd™) announces its solutions have received three awards from three long-standing education technology publication awards programs.

Interactive math learning system LearnBop®, an exclusive partner of FuelEd, was selected as a winner in the 2015 Tech & Learning Awards of Excellence for Best Upgraded Product. The awards program, which is now in its 33rd year, recognizes software, hardware, network, apps, and web products that break new ground, as well as those that added significant enhancements to proven education tools.

LearnBop has made significant updates this year, including the addition of a bank of more than 2,000 Technology Enhanced Items (TEI) and full math content for grades K-12. By adding content for grades K-12, more students can reap the benefits of this rigorous, dynamic interactive math program – better preparation for state tests and improved learning outcomes by closing prerequisite skill gaps.

LearnBop also won a 2015 EDDIE Award from The ComputED Gazette for Best Multi-Level Math Website. In its review of the product, the judges described LearnBop’s Student Dashboard as “simple to navigate, providing useful information so students are aware, at all times, of the status of their assignments, assessments and progress.” Additionally, the judges commended the platform’s ability to provide “in-depth data reports available at the end of each session to give teachers insight into the knowledge gaps holding students back – including those from prerequisite concepts.”

FuelEd’s Middle School Language Arts Courses won a 2015 BESSIE Award from The ComputED Gazette for Best Middle School Language Arts Online Courses. The BESSIE Awards, now in its 21st year, target innovative and content-rich programs, apps and websites that provide parents and teachers with the technology to foster educational excellence. FuelEd’s Middle School Language Arts Courses are tablet-ready and aligned to national standards. The online courses concentrate on key English Language Arts concepts such as reading comprehension, analysis of informational text and literary works, oral presentation and expression, vocabulary, grammar and more.

“FuelEd and our partners, including LearnBop, are always adding new content and features in order to improve both the teacher and student learning experience,” said Gregg Levin, General Manager of Fuel Education. “This recognition from Tech & Learning’s Awards of Excellence and The ComputED Gazette’s two awards programs further confirms that we are helping our students continue and accelerate their academic growth.”

About LearnBop

LearnBop, an exclusive partner of Fuel Education, is an award-winning interactive learning system based in New York City. The LearnBop platform uses a unique step-by-step approach to learning math, mimicking the kind of support a student would get in a tutoring session. Each step covers a concept students need to understand in order to solve the original problem, which means that data on student performance is collected as students learn.  Data are organized into intuitive dashboards that provide teachers with a dynamic view of class performance, down to each individual student. This means teachers can provide both individualized instruction and better-informed group instruction based on the unique learning contours and performance of their own classroom. Curriculum Associates Supports the Advancement of Latino Educators by Sponsoring ALAS Scholarships

With the generous donation by Curriculum Associates, ALAS chooses two aspiring superintendents to receive funds to help them pursue advanced degrees

NORTH BILLERICA, Mass., November 2, 2015—Curriculum Associates recently donated to the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (ALAS) to support the organization’s scholarship program. The donation allowed ALAS to award two aspiring superintendents with a total of $12,000 in scholarship funds to pursue or continue their advanced educational degrees. Rubén Gutiérrez of Pendergast Elementary School District in Phoenix, AZ received a $10,000 scholarship and Ivette Dubiel of Indian Prairie School District 204 in Aurora, IL received a $2,000 scholarship.

“We strongly believe there needs to be more diversity within K–12 leadership to better match the current diversity found at the student level,” said Aurora Martínez, Executive Director of Curriculum Associates. “ALAS is working to make this a reality and, because of this, we have chosen to support their scholarship program.”

Gutiérrez, a governing board member and the associate superintendent for teaching and learning for his district, has worked vigorously with multicultural and economically diverse communities in Arizona to provide a first-rate education to students throughout his 20-year career. He has worked as a college academic advisor, high school teacher, adjunct professor, principal, district director, and state director prior to his current role. The recently awarded scholarship will support Gutiérrez’s completion of a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership in K–12 Education from Grand Canyon University.

“Rubén is an amazing Latino educator and board member who embraces the true meaning of being a servant and transformational leader,” said Dr. Lily Matos DeBlieux, superintendent of Pendergast Elementary School District. “Through the generous support of Curriculum Associates, this scholarship will allow Rubén to further his education and use the knowledge gained for the benefit of his students, colleagues, and community. We are so proud of him.”

Dubiel has been an educator for the past eight years and is currently the director of educational equity for her school district, which is the fourth largest in the state of Illinois. In addition to this role, she is the board president for two nonprofits and a blogger for The Huffington Post where she writes articles about Latino voices. Dubiel has three Master’s degrees in Public Administration, Teaching with Certification, and Educational Leadership, and is currently in her second year of doctoral studies pursuing an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership in Teaching and Learning.

“I am honored and privileged to have been selected for this award,” said Dubiel. “The scholarship signifies ALAS and Curriculum Associates’ collective belief in the importance of higher education and reaffirms that hard work can be extrinsically rewarding.”
