Evo SEL wins Supplemental Resources-Social-Emotional and Character Learning
Charlotte N.C. – June 9, 2016 – Apperson’s Evo Social & Emotional assessment solution was named a winner last night in the 2016 Association of American Publishers REVERE Awards. The awards identify and honor high quality resources that educate learners of all ages, in all media, and in all educational environments, both in and beyond the classroom.
Evo SEL helps schools, districts, and after school programs throughout the country measure students’ social and emotional competencies. It won in the Supplemental Resources category for social-emotional and character learning. The Evo SEL application features the DESSA (Devereux Student Strengths Assessment), recognized as the gold-standard in SEL assessment.
“Social and emotional learning plays a key role in setting a student up for lifelong success,” said Bill Apperson, chairman of the board of Apperson. “Having Evo SEL recognized by the REVERE awards proves that it is a critical tool for educators to measure SEL skills.”
The REVERE (Recognizing Valuable Educational Resources) Awards identify outstanding educational products that engage today’s teachers and students. Products were judged by educators and industry professionals during a three-month-long evaluation process. Each product was reviewed against a comprehensive rubric promoting excellence in all areas of product design and development. Apperson introduced Evo SEL in response to a growing body of research showing that addressing students’ social and emotional needs has a positive impact on their academic performance and helps lay the foundation for lifelong success.
Evo SEL measures the SEL competencies of students in kindergarten through 8th grade. It is based on the Devereux Student Strengths Assessment (DESSA), a standardized, strengths-based measure of SEL competencies such as self-awareness, self-management, relationship skills and decision-making. Apperson provides an online platform for administering the DESSA and DESSA Mini, universal screeners that quickly identify students’ SEL competencies, and it provides resources to address SEL gaps. Evo SEL also provides data to help SEL program administrators measure the impact of their programs.
Apperson’s K-16 assessment solutions help educators develop a 360° panorama of the student and his or her strengths, as well as areas of opportunities, that can inform curriculum decision-making and create positive learning outcomes. Whether it’s DataLink scanners, or the Evo assessment platform, Apperson’s products support and encourage a holistic learning and development approach by helping educators turn assessment data into actionable information. NEW YORK, N.Y. (June 9, 2016) – McGraw-Hill Education, a learning science company, and ZogoTech, a provider of predictive data analytics services to higher education institutions, have entered into an agreement providing McGraw-Hill Education exclusive rights to sell the data firm’s proven services.
The agreement signals McGraw-Hill Education’s continued investment in learning science and data analytics as keys to improving student outcomes, and its desire to help bring ZogoTech’s outstanding data science to scale nationwide.
“We’re excited to team up with ZogoTech to bring its cutting edge analytics and services to colleges looking to make more data-informed decisions,” said Jerome Grant, SVP of Enterprise Services for McGraw-Hill Education’s higher education group. “As a learning science company, we’re constantly looking at the most impactful research and searching for innovators who are finding new ways of improving results for schools.”
ZogoTech is a leading provider of student success analytics solutions for community colleges. ZogoTech’s software transforms disparate data into actionable insights for users throughout an institution. Administrators can identify policy changes that will affect student success by surfacing hidden trends and identifying which interventions are most effective. Researchers can drill down to understand underlying causes, quickly pivoting millions of rows of data. Advisors and faculty can utilize front-end applications that guide them to which students are at-risk and which action to take.
“We’ve been working quietly for nearly 13 years with our partner institutions to deeply understand the data behind student progression,” said Michael Taft, CEO of ZogoTech. “McGraw-Hill Education has tremendous expertise and data around the learning moment. We have a unique opportunity to bring both of those perspectives together in ways that have never been done before.”
ZogoTech has successfully helped colleges improve retention rates. Through its work with Odessa College, for example, new data-based insights were obtained that led to an original scientifically based program for improving in-class retention rates. Those improvements have led to an in-class retention rate that increased from an average of 83 percent in 2010 to more than 94 percent in 2014.
“Our award winning Drop Rate Improvement Program would never have been developed without the analytic capabilities provided by ZogoTech’s products,” said Don Wood, Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness at Odessa College.
