ThinkCERCA Launches Online Resource for Teaching the Election
The web-based election center is designed to help teachers get students thinking critically
about the 2016 presidential election.
(CHICAGO) October 4, 2016 — ThinkCERCA, a leading provider of personalized literacy solutions, today announced the launch of Teach the Election, an online information hub that features everything educators need to get students thinking critically about the 2016 election. The site provides teachers with weekly prompts for helping students debate what the candidates are saying in the news, as well as curated differentiated lessons for educating students about the election issues.
In one convenient location, teachers can also access election resources, tips from fellow teachers, downloadable teaching resources (including graphic organizers for sparking classroom discussion and debate), and an election-focused argumentative writing poster.
“We designed Teach the Election to meet some key challenges educators are facing this year in regards to the election,” said Eileen Murphy Buckley, the founder and CEO of ThinkCERCA. “Teachers all over the country are struggling to find factual, age-appropriate material, and Teach the Election gives them that information in a format that they can use in the classroom right away.”
ThinkCERCA’s lessons focus on critical thinking and argumentation, two powerful skills needed for civic engagement. By reading authentic and appropriately leveled texts about economics, energy policy, criminal justice, immigration, and more, students engage with issues of national and global importance, evaluate the evidence presented, and argue their point of view through writing, discussion, and debate. By learning to make an effective, civil argument, students will be well prepared not just for college and career, but also for civic life.
ThinkCERCA’s personalized literacy platform helps educators teach critical thinking skills through argumentative writing. With students and teachers using its platform in all 50 states and 130 countries, the company has partnered with prominent leaders in education, including Follett Corporation, and has been featured by The Atlantic and EdSurge. A 2016 SIAA CODiE Awards finalist in the Best Learning Capacity-Building Solution and Best Reading/English/Language Arts Instructional Solution categories, ThinkCERCA has also been named one of the best tools in ed tech by Common Sense’s Graphite. Cincinnati, OH (October 4, 2016) — PublicSchoolWORKS’ Staff Training System, a part of the award-winningEmployeeSafe Suite, was awarded a Gold Stevie® in the Safety Training Category in the 2016 Stevie Awards for Great Employers. More than 250 nominations from around the world were evaluated in this year’s competition. The winners were determined by the average scores of more than 50 professionals who acted as judges.
PublicSchoolWORKS’ Staff Training System helps education institutions provide a safe work environment for their employees. It contains the most up-to-date online course content and seamless automation to help districts improve school safety by creating training strategies that affect culture change. Once defined, the system automates the deployment, tracking and completion of safety training with little administrator involvement. PublicSchoolWORKS’ Research & Development Team continually tracks legislation and then creates new courses or updates existing courses to ensure schools are meeting new requirements.
The system automatically deploys course assignments and accompanying assessments to employees via email based on their job role, which can be completed at their convenience, thus freeing up scarce in-service days for other administrative needs. The system’s automation then reminds employees to complete their courses and sends non-compliance reports to administrators listing the employees who have not completed their courses. Each employee’s transcript is then stored online and can be easily access for reference if necessary.
“Our customers love the Staff Training System, but being recognized by this award program further shows that districts can benefit from technology if it makes their jobs more efficient and effective while helping to provide safer learning environments,” said Tom Strasburger, Vice President, Sales & Marketing of PublicSchoolWORKS. “We want to help districts stay in compliance with risk management mandates, but we also want to help them create, implement and sustain a safe learning environment.”
