The Association for Learning Environments Celebrates 2016 Fellows

Melanie E. Drerup, ALEP
Melanie Drerup serves as the K-12 Planning Manager for the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC). Melanie Drerup is an avid advocate for high performance student centered learning environments not only for all of Ohio’s students, but across the nation. She worked with consultants to develop a stand-alone Planning Guide to support school districts in their planning efforts. The OFCC also hosts an annual workshop to promote educational visioning and transformation and maintains a website, 21Cstudio, to share planning resources and responses to an ever changing world.

An active member of the association since 1987, David Waggoner has over 30 years of experience in the field of education and the education environment. As vice president and educational leader at Heery International, he has always sought to be a mentor of others. Initiating the development of a scholarship program for North Carolina college students in educational facility related fields of study, David Waggoner takes every opportunity to encourage younger members to become involved. He served as Southeast Region Director on the International Board and was elected as chair-elect in 2012. As chair of the Board, he led a significant strategic planning session and continued his involvement on strategic committees. Currently David Waggoner is participating in the Southern Region Young Professionals Meetings, encouraging mentors to partner with those new to the association and the planning and design of learning environments.
